Thello sleeper, Paris to Italy

Thello was formed by the consortium of Trenitalia and French railways as an overnight sleeper train between Paris - Milan - Verona - Venice.

Sleepers For a comfortable trip, there is the choice of 1, 2 or 3-berth sleeper cabins. If travelling as a couple 2-berth cabins are preferable however single cabins are available for those travelling alone. Single travellers can book into shared cabins of the same sex to save on paying a solo occupancy supplement.

All cabins feature bedding, towels, washbasin and a complimentary toiletries kit and include a bottle of water per passenger. Each bed comes with its own reading light and 220v 2-pin plug socket for laptops and mobiles. Room for luggage can be found above the window and in the recess above the door running over the ceiling of the corridor. Toilets are found at the end of the corridor which can be accessed after departure.

Vouchers are provided for a complimentary light breakfast in the restaurant car the next morning.

Inside a 3 bed sleeper

Couchette cars

4 and 6-berth couchette compartments are the economy option, providing flat-pack bunks, each with reading lights, sheets, pillow and duvets to be arranged yourself. The bunks are arranged as upper, middle and lower bunks on each side of the compartments. Couchettes are usually mixed gender, however women travelling alone can reserve places in a 4-berth ladies-only compartment.

There is plenty of room for luggage under the seats, on the rack and in the recess above the door that protrudes over the corridor.

Luggage allowance

Each passenger is allowed two bags/suitcases plus hand luggage. There is no charge for oversized luggage.

Bicycles

Any bicycle that can be folded into a bag with the maximum dimensions of 120 x 90cm can be taken onto the Thello service free of charge as this counts towards your luggage allowance.

Pets

Domestic pets can travel with you for a fee of £10 per animal providing the following guidelines are adhered to:

• You are required to book out an entire compartment
• Your pet must stay with you the entire journey
• Dogs must kept on a muzzle and lead at all times.
• Carriers must be used for all small pets
• Guide dogs travel for free
• Each passenger is restricted to a maximum of two pets.

Booking horizon

The Thello can usually be booked 120 days in advance. So-called "Smart' fares are available for tickets booked in advance on Thello, and offer around a 60% discount on regular fares. No refunds or exchanges are permitted with Smart fares. Rail pass holders are not entitled to a reduced fare on Thello trains.
