Destinations

I think these new features are great. Worked for me when I entered Die in France. I wasn't confident that there was a station - but there was!

Yeah, this is really very useful. I tried a few random places that I'd never heard referencing google maps and the autofill found them before I'd finished typing. Sweet.

Distances from the nearest station is very useful too.

The 'call to action' to search for trains once the nearest station has been found is a nice touch.

Also, I like that lots of nearby stations pop up on the map as well as the nearest station. Gives me a choice...

Only thing I would change is the feedback when it can't find a station. Autofill completed a destination for me (i.e. the spelling was correct) but the feedback said I should check the spelling. I imagine that the particular town hadn't been set in the database yet which is cool but I reckon it would be good to have that explained somehow in the message.

Maybe the next step would be to have different filters for the suggested destinations such as price and speed as well as distance. i.e. this place is closer but if you go here you'll get there quicker or it's cheaper. Although this would mean typing in you time/date of travel first. Hmmmm...

Perhaps if the destinations could be integrated with the main search window. So if you know exactly where you're going you type it in or alternatively you go to 'map view' with all the little station icons on there and click on the one you want.

Anyhoo, love how this site gets richer and richer. Best get back to work now...!

Good function, easy for first time traveller to know which station, what type of train available and the travel duration also. ^^ b

Thanks all for the feedback.

We're currently compiling the feedback from here and from some user-testing sessions we've held recently, and we'll be writing a blog post soon about what we've decided to do.

Some of the features probably aren't ready for public launch in the immediate future (particularly some of the stuff Jeremy mentions about the station finder, the datasets we're using, and the error messages we display), but we will have some form of the Destinations section live to the public soon.

Regarding Jeremy's more detailed feedback about price and speed as well as distance, and integrating destinations in the main search, this is something we'd love to tackle in one of the future iterations after we've nailed the basics of the station finder.
